newbie question... please advice.

I got a Denon 2309 just 3 wks ago. Everything (as in operation) work great, except that I notice a very distinct (and stinking) smell from the left/front part of the receiver. I believe that's where the transformer is. When I peek into casing, I can see yellow glue like substance all over the transformer. The 'glue' are all 'solid', so they are not free flowing, if you know what I mean.

btw, I have to put my noise real close and sniff to detect the smell (and no smell from components other than the transformer). Oh, and the receiver is NOT in any cabinet or TV stand, wide open in the living room, so ventilation should not be a problem.

Is is just one of those 'new electronics smell'? kinda weird...

Thanks in advance!

I would not worry about it It sound like a very new receiver and it still settling down, One of the receiver I own had a yellow form on it.

Give it 3-4 weeks and it should go away, Try playing a movie very loud and smell it then it should smell more it working the transformer harder.

Still keep a eye on it to be safe I would not leave the receiver on when you go out turn it off.
