I will be adding a room to our house. Plan is for 24' X 28' with high ceiling. Because of proximity to golf course and plans for a swimming pool, the room will have French doors and a minimum of three 48" X 48" windows. Considering plantation style shutters for windows and doors, but am flexible. Will have floating wood laminate floor, but have not yet decided on shade of interior walls. Plan to have fixed wall screen (between 92" and 120" diagonal) along one 24' wall with PJ to be ceiling mounted. Have HDTV cable available. Viewing needs include TV sports and programs, DVD movies, and VHS movies from existing library, but does not include games or computer use. At night, outside light is not an issue, and pitch black can be achieved. Am willing to shade new windows and doors to degree NECESSARY, but would like to be able entertain friends, particularly for sporting events without total darkness required. Have 5 K in budget for PJ. Have mechanical skills and not afraid to use them, i.e. will accept the CRT challenge if that offers the best result.

Models currently given most consideration are: Sony VPL-HS20, Sanyo PLV-70, NEC HT1000, DreamWeaver, Zenith PRO900X, 8" used CRT.

Have seen demos of all three technologies, but with the LCD unit was an older low end model, and the CRT unit was a 65 K Runco 9" unit. The DLP unit was a DreamWeaver. Only the LCD unit was setup to display a TV signal and it was not impressive.
