I'm somewhat new to scalers and doublers and such. I have a friend with a Pioneer SD-641HD5 bigscreen television. He has a first generation rca high definition satellite using the vga to component adapter into the set. We also have everything else in the system run with S-video through a tributaries S-video engine. He is using the marantz rc-2000 remote. We use all s-video switching through the marantz preamp. The satellite is run direct by the component. We would like to run all the video through a processor and output component to the tv. Will any of the processors input an s-video and convert to component. We want to simplify the system function without using the complex macros used now. It would be simpler to leave the set on the component input. Would the picture quality improve from his video equipment? Does anyone use any processors with this tv or similar that could give some advice. He is not adverse to spending a couple grand to get a better picture and some auto detection of video source and scaled properly on his screen. The set now does show 1080i on the screen when he uses the satellite on the high def channels. Can we get a better picture yet? What processor? For video components he has a laser disc machine, s-video vcr, rca high def sat, dvd player with S-video .........no component I don't believe, and comcast cable and also off air antenna. So the only component source is satellite at the moment, but also his most watched source. He doesn't want more confusion in switching functions. I am hoping for auto detection of sources and an improved picture. thanks
