I want to connect my new PJ.

Would there be any PQ reduction or loss, etc. if I were to use (premade) 25' mini coax BNC RGBHV cables? There is a local co. that makes these for $51.00.

I will be connecting my HTPC to an Extron 202xi then to the PJ.

Thank you,

Darren

I would seriously look into the quality of the cable and connectors you are looking at.

I purchased the Canare tools and make my own cables. Canare BNC connectors are almost $3 each and the best Canare 5 channel mini-coax, V5-3CFB, is about $1.60/ft or the Belden 7789A at about $3/ft. That is $70 minimum before any labor to put on the connectors, boots or heat-shrink and shipping.

It might be worth spending a little more initially to avoid problems.

I too have made/am making custom BNC to BNC cables with Belden 1505a HD "Video Brilliance" 75ohm video cable, and perma seal broadcast quality 75ohm compression fit BNC connectors. Nothing involved is cheap. Unless that company is buying its connectors in the 10's of thousands, and its wire by the 10,000 foot spool, they are likely using lesser quality components somewhere. Get the names and specs of the wire and connectors and check them yourself.

If they are good, then its a good price.

Often, 50ohm BNC connectors get substituted for true 75ohm connectors for price reductions. You can tell the difference by looking at the pictures in this thread. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...ssion+fittings

Look at the last post on the first page, there is a picture of both kinds of BNC connector.

If you go with a cheap cable, one of the first things you may notice is "ringing".

You'll know it as soon as you see it, when a dark object is shown against a bright background, the object will look like it has a coating of jelly around it, kind of a ghost effect.

Many think this is cause during mastering of the disc, and some of it is.

However, having read about so much of this seen by others, and my system exhibiting much less, leads me to believe much of it is created by inferior gear.

Add to this the labor, which when done to Mil Spec takes about five hours to complete. Mil Spec means no nicking of any strands (this could cause signal loss in terms of highest freq's that are running along the skin of the nicked strand)

So your talking $70-$85 in parts, and a min of five hours to build a set correctly. I'd take my chances on a company or someone I who thought had the technical knowledge and equipment to do this job right.

I don't think $50 or $60 for a quality set of BNC cables is possible.
