I also have the X1. I don't know what you mean by snowy whites. The first thing you need to do(if you haven't) is to calibrate your X1 with Avia, etc. especially contrast and brightness. The second thing is to either paint your wall or get a screen. The tan color is not ideal for the image.
I second what Jim is saying. But then, I'm not positive that I understand your query. You might want to make sure that we are understanding your question.

Tan is really not good for serious viewing.

- What DVD player are you using? What is your Hidef source? How are these sources connected to the X1?

- What firmware are you using (i.e.: 3.6, 4.1, 4.3?)?

- Have you changed the settings of Brightness, Contrast, etc.? What are your numbers in these settings?

Good luck.

If you haven't done so before you may also want to check out Technut's unofficial X1 FAQ here for lots more information. It is excellent.

what can i use to calibrate it
As I said earlier, calibrate it with a disc such as Avia, Digital Video Essentials, Sound and Vision disc, or the THX optimizer on some DVD's.

Sounds like you are seeing compression artifacts. The fact is , your X1 is going to reveal alot more than any small standard TV could...DVDs and TV that previously looked good can look like crap when blown up.
Oh , absolutely make sure and turn off the white segment of the color wheel!
In other words make sure you are NOT in Presentation mode.
so by being in video i am turning off the white segment
Put it on "Film" mode. One of my DVD players (before I sold my X1) had too high of a contrast setting and it was causing whites to clip when they shouldn't. I already had contrast set to about 44 on the X1, so to fix this I simply went to the dvd player's contrast menu and dropped the contrast to -2. This got rid of that problem. Different players have different settings though. Using the THX Optimizer on DVDs such as Terminator 2: Extreme Edition will help you calibrate.
