Hello people as many of you know I recently purchased a Toshiba A-1 HD DVD player. I have also already done a 2.0 firmware update. I have the 5.1 analog outs hooked up to my 5.1 analog inputs. My receiver is a Pioneer 1015. When watching dvds I get LFE effect via the multi-channel sleection on my 1015. However, when playing a cd I do NOT get any bass out of my subs at all. I did take the time to go into the settings of the A-1 to set up speaker size and distance. Can't figure out why I would get bass from my subs when watching a dvd but not when playing a cd. How can I fix this? Any suggestions..........??? I also set the X-over to 80 Hz.

Not familiar with your receiver. But your cd audio is 2 channel. There is no info to send to the ".1" channel. Unless your receiver has bass management settings for 2 channel audio I don't think there is much you can do.

Someone else may have a suggestion that I haven't thought of...

Sounds logical..........but if I select dvd on my 1015 when playing cds my subs play. I have a digital audio cable hookep up to my 1015 as well as the 5.1 analog outs. Is this why I may not get any bass when using the multi-channel selection on my 1015?

I have a 1014 and a 1016 connected to A1s. What are the speaker settings for the left and right? If they are set to large on the A1, then all the base is routed to the left and right speakers. Only when they are set to small will there be use of a subwoofer. In both of my setups, when playing CDs, the sub acutally turns itself off.

It looks to me, that the 1015 set it self up, it determined your speakers were small, or you didn't run the setup and it defaulted to small.

Plug the Optical Out (or coax) to you're amp to have Sub in CD. If you use only multichannel out, CD are 2ch PCM, so only LEFT and RIGHT are gonna get signals.

DVD have a .1 encoded to them..

I use my A1 with CD's also, and I have a VSX-816. When I cycle the receiver to analog, I DO get an LFE signal. I don't have stereo wires hooked up, so it has to be using the 5.1 FL/FR/sub. I honestly am not sure WHY it does this, but it sounds great. I'm assuming it's because my mains are set to small.

I have the FL and the FR set to "large" because I have the Infinity Primus 360's. I will change that to small and see if I get any bass. Thanks for your help.

I already have a digital coax running from the out of the A-1 to the input of my 1015. I think the problem may be that i have the fronts set to "large" and will change that to small as soon as I have the time.

As mentioned I have the fronts set to large. I will change that later today and see if I get some bass. Thanks to you and anyone else who has taken the time to give me some advice. Have a great day everybody.
