RTV4040

Please help me. I have a 120 gig maxtor master and a 80 gig maxtor slave that were previously in my rtv system. I noticed skipping so i decided to low level format and start fresh.

Ok, I low level formatted and certified each of my two drives. After 20 hours it was finally done. I load RTVPatch 2.1.3 and set the target drive and the second drive. I clicked on retore target drive and it asked for a rtv file, so i browsed to the 500 mb file i saved when it asked me to backup before i decided to format. anyways, after I loaded the backup, i clicked on make dual drive system and i am getting an error saying invalid cluster size on partition 2, and i see in the rtvpatch window replay disk 2 or 2 on the second drive and not a replay disk onthe first drive.

The first drive was the 120 gig the second drive was the 80 gig.

heres a copy of the logs. please help. i sure hope i do not have to reformat!!!

It looks like what happened is that somehow, we got which drive is drive 1 and 2 confused.

That is, I see you restored the backup to "physicaldrive2" but later when it tries to do the add/patch, it thinks that "physicaldrive2" is the secondary drive. That's a pretty guaranteed path to failure.

Try this: and I know it'll take longer:

1) Restore the backup to whatever drive you want to be drive 1

2) Apply the patch

3) Make sure that drive will boot in the replay

4) Put both drives back into the PC

5) Do the "add" operating, making sure to set the second drive as Drive 2

6) Try rebooting that in the replay.

i tried the following before reading your reply. i simply copied the backup image to the other drive and patched it. it worked. i did a factory reset and i am setting everything up now. i have 203 hours and 200 gigs. so al looks good do far. only thing i wonder is am i supposed to have the rtv image file on both drives? cuz if not i do and its working.

Given our history with irons and electronics, it's not hard to see how we could have done that. ;) Perhaps KenL would care to comment??

BTW I don't think it matters what's on a properly working drive 2... as long as the pair is patched correctly (with the OS on drive 1).

i take is the os is on drive one and patched ocrrectly as it is working otherwise it would not be working correct?

That's correct.

And I think you could have the opposite true @ the same time... but the last combo patched would be the only one that works? @ any rate as soon as you start using it it's likely to overwrite whatever was on drive 2 with mpegs or buffer.
