Plinius Odeon and Martin Logan

I'm considering changing to Martin Logan speakers.

Any suggestions as to how they will perform with my Plinius Odeon?

Thanks

Darryl,

In the current issue of Stereophile, reviewer Bolin reviews the Plinius flagship product the

Reference. He stated that their previous flagship product that he reviewed in 2000 was able

to effectively drive his then reference speakers - Apogee Duetta Signatures.

He then states the the Plinius Odeon eclipses this previous flagship product the Mark IV; hence

the need to design the new flagship product under review.

Since the Odeon eclipses the previous flagship, and that flagship handled a tough load like

Bolin's Apogee's; then it probably can handle the Martin Logans.

Thanks very much for the advice.

I'd just hate to buy the Martin Logans and then find I need a new amplifier (I love the sound of the Odeon).

Probably Vantage but as there are no centres at all in stock and available in Australia I'll have to wait for the new models to be released.

The vantage is the new model.

You will have enough power but you will have to demo them to see what it sounds like.
Yes but they haven't as yet released the ESL Centre speaker.
i am a ml owner with ascent i's. i know of many ml uses who love the combo with plinius amps. the newer s (vantage and summit) are by far the easiest of all mls to drive as they both contain an internal amp for the bass and thus only the panel will have to be driven. the panels are quite an easy load to drive, even with the older s. with that being said, like anything in this hobby, you should try demoing that amp with either the ascents or odysees. you will get a better feel of how it will perform with ml's in general. the newer s offer a bit better resolution and much much better bass. if you want more info, go to www.martinloganowners.com and ask there. cheers!!!!
Thanks for the reassurance Anthony.

As soon as the ESL Centre is released and I've tried the complete setup, I'll report back to this forum

Don't hold your breath because it might be a flop like all the rest of the ML center speakers.
Are you saying don't buy ML for use in HT?

Admittedly I haven’t been following ML since I sold my reQuests 4yrs ago, but I never thought their center channel speakers back then to be “flopsâ€. Can you explain?

Thanks….mike
the logos center, yes.... the cinema, probably, the theatre i, no way. i agree that mls are much better as mains and surrounds, but the theatre i is an excellent center and in no way is comparable to the other "lesser" centre's that ml makes. the only problem with it is its size, that is why they are releasing the new "stage" centre. it will have the same performance as the theatre i but smaller.... as people dislike "huge" speakers.

If I were you I would wait for the stage center to make 100% sure that it does not turn out like the theater i. With ML speakers it is a must to have sound absorbing panels behind the speakers.

Ya, go listen to a theater i.

I owned a theater i for some time and found it to be sub par in build quality and sonic performance. The theater i would be a decent speaker for $1000 but that is about it.

Does this apply to the center speaker too?

If so that's probably the end of ML for me.

We will have to see when the stage comes out, is it possible for you to demo or listen to a theater i?
Unfortunately, there are no center speakers in stock in Australia.

They ran down their stocks of all centers in anticipation of the new models being released.

Can you wait for the stage because it might be a 2007 release.
Yes, but it's not easy once one's decided to upgrade.

One of the alternatives I may have to consider is Focal.JM lab

That might be your best bet because I run a ML setup for home theater and I had to ditch the theater i because it was so bad. I run 2 acsent i's, 2 aeon i's, and for a center I upgraded to a Mcintosh XR27 which was a huge improvment over the theater i but it does not match up perfectly. If you really want ML's you will need to look for a center some where else.
