Has anyone seen or used one of these projectors in a home theater environment. I saw a demo today and was impressed. I have been trying to find more info on them...reviews ect. One thing i havn't found is the color wheel speed. Anyone no this or have a link to a reviews.

I too have seen this projector. but i have not been able to find any reviews of any kind on the internet. The guy at the shop i saw it at mentioned that Plus was one of the bigger PJ companies in Japan. I thought there would have been many reviews/specs up on the net. Ziltch, nadda, nothing. I saw a picture in on the documention pictures that looked like a 4 segment color wheel. (if that even confirms anything)

I saw quite a bit of the Rainbow effect in 2 dvd's that were shown. This concerns me. I would think its a 2x color wheel because of this.

I just talked with John at digital dynamics who is the PLUS supplier for Canadian dealers. It has a 2x color wheel and the pixelworks scaler chip in it. That being said I took a chance and bought this projector and am very pleased with it's performance. So far I have used it 10hrs over the weekend and have only seen rainbows when I turn my head away quickly. I demo'd both the BenQ pb6100 and this PLUS u5-111 and found the Plus had a better picture. John also said that it has a 1000hr/1yr bulb warranty which is unheard of in projectors. It also has a very short throw lens. With approx 9.5' of throw I get approx 80" diagonal 4:3 picture. It does not have a zoom lens, but for what I need its perfect. It is also very bright at 1600 lumens in normal mode and approx 1200 in econo mode. Lamp is rated at 2000/3000 hrs. For the price I got it for (reportedly dealer cost as per John not where I bought it from) I am very happy.

You compared the Benq6100 with the Plus u5-111. Do i understand this?

For the street price of the Plus i thought maybe to compare it to a Benq 7200.

Who in Edmonton has Benq's on display?

I was able to see the BenQ at Audio 5.1

Last time I was there he did not have any of the BenQ's in stock.

I have also sent you a private message regarding prices.

I've seen both the Manufatures webpage and Projector Central. I can only gather so much information from specs. Any manufacturer can play the spec game to favor things more than others.

Really all i was looking for were unbiased reviews of this PJ that can back up what the dealer says about it, other than a manufaturer spec page.

Well that was a short lived projector experience. Saturday the bulb exploded....and I mean exploded as there was glass everywhere. I am glad the projector was in front of us and not above or behind. The popping noise scared the hell out of all of us...my wife's first thought was that somone shot a gun into our house. The projector only had 15 hours on it. The retailer where I purchased, refunded my my money without hesitation. I have decided to hold off on purchasing another projector until a better bulb technology comes available. This experince made me realize that as soon as the bulb is out of warranty that would have cost me 5-$600.00 which i'm just not prepared to deal with.
