I thought all I needed was a new bulb when my bulb shattered on start up but with a known good bulb borrowed from a friend, the lamp will not light. The unit had this problem a year ago and the service department (Boxlight actually) "fixed" it by unplugging and replugging the ballast.

Can someone tell me how to get at the ballast?

Also, anyone have an idea what is going on here? It was clearly working until the bulb broke as it was lit when it popped.

Funny you should ask that as one of the main reasons I borrowed the bulb was to find out how many hours so I could advertise that when I sold the unit. Of course, I also wanted to verify that it worked but I was pretty sure (incorrectly) that it would.

We don't use it much, just for movies, so I am thinking between 200 and 500 hours. It had some hours on it when we got it as a warantee exchange so I am not sure.

I tried reseating the bulb a couple of times. I want to do the same with the ballast but don't know how to do that.

Don't have any idea where ballast is located, you could call Boxlight and ask if it is easy to locate and replace. Does your friend who gave you the bulb have a PJ that uses the bulb to verify if the bulb is still OK. Did the replace bulb light come on before your bulb failed, it lights up when you have a 1000hrs on it.

I am going to take everything over to my friends and verify the bulb etc. Not sure I understand your questions but my bulb started to light (it was in warm up phase) and then broke. I got the replacement after that and never got it to light. I will verify everything next week.
