There is some background information on this thread
Yesterday, I picked up four PMC TB2 and one PMC TB2 centre channel . Information about these here . I have the front's about 1.5 ft from the back wall and about 2 ft from the side walls. They are on 24" stands. The speakers still need breaking in but here are some preliminary impressions:
- The most clean and deep bass I have heard from a cabinet this size bar none
- when running my Bryston SP 1.7 in pure 2 ch bypass I had to recheck that it was indeed in bypass because the imaging on these speakers were so good that I thought the centre was still on. Not until I put my ear against the centre and heard nothing was I satisfied.
- lots of the little details in the mids that you may not notice on a lesser speaker can be heard very clearly here
- very unobtrusive looking for those worried about WAF
Some other things I like about these speakers is that they can be biwired (not a big advocate of this) or bi amped (willing to experiment here) as the cross over sections for high pass and low pass are seperated.
For those not familiar with PMC, it stands for Professional Monitor Company and this brand of speakers are found in many music and movie mixing production venues PMC is similar to Bryston in that these companies service the pro market first where they made their reputation and then the consumer market. I read somewhere that Spiderman was mixed with PMC's (not the models that I have though). I wanted to support the local economy and buy good ol' Canadian speakers like Energy, Mirage, PSB, Paradigm, Gershmann etc and while all are good speakers I ended up with the PMC's (made in the UK) which are distributed by Bryston so I guess that counts a bit.
There are always threads in regards to the more common mainstream brands. This is a little plug for a lesser known brand at least in the consumer market. I will warn you that these speakers are not "cheap" as they list for $2K CDN which is about $1300 US per pair.
I did not do direct comparisons with the any other speaker at the dealer as Martin Logan and Wilson is a "bit" out of my budget. I have listened to the other brands I mentioned but only somewhat casually in other environements.
If you want decent bass, detailed mids and highs in a small relatively package this might be your ticket.
