Has anyone here used the Pogoplug? It seems like an easy way to get NAS functionality if you have some USB hard drives lying around.

I was looking into a Pogoplug but for a little more got a Synology DS110j. It only has three usb ports for external drives (as opposed to 4 for Pp?) but it also has a sata drive bay and perhaps better network performance. I've never owned a Pogoplug so I can't really compare anything other than advertised features.

edit: One thing that just came to mind is whether the Synology requires a sata drive. If that's the case, though, you may be able to remove the actual hard drive from its USB enclosure.

Seems convoluted to use. It appears you set it up via the pogoplug website then you either use Internet Explorer or download a Pogoplug app to be able to use it. It appears you always connect to it through their server somehow.

A NAS box that just plugs in and natively joins your network just seems so much easier.
