Polk Audio Surround Bar

574 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Russdawg
Polk Audio recently introduced the 'surround bar' which 'simulates' 5.1 sound - using seven drivers in one 43 inch enclosure. I have a TV room in which it will be awkward to install 'rear speakers'. Hence I'm considering the 'surround bar'. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Haven't been following the "virtual" surround options since I bought the binaura. But when I was shopping I compiled this list (with some updates):

Not sure what the polk costs. If I had the right layout (a box) in my room, I'd want the Yamaha YSP-1000 (or 800). I heard an offering similar to the polk (M&K?) which I liked less than the YSP.

For open layouts, Niro is probably best. The Binaura (which I bought) is a good, more budgetary contender.
There are several of these speakers hitting the market and I like the perk of not having to wire rear speakers. Have not been able to find a dealer in the Phoenix area so I could do an in-person experience.
I did get a chance to hear the Polk Surround bar and it sounds very very good. I hate Bose but its kinda like the Bose Wave radio of this sort of thing. Surprisingly good sound for its size.
