Polk Monitor 60's + PSW10 for home audio, good?

2535 Views 15 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  m_vanmeter
This will be my first home setup, mostly just for my room since im single and live in apartment style housing (military)

I can get 2 monitor 60's and the psw10 for $340 shipped brand new which seems like a huge deal to me? Would this be nice for my room hooked up to my computer (through a reciever of course) ... mostly for music, gaming, and movies... I'm looking for bang for buck here, don't want to spend alot, but still have nice quality and get loud too

bang for the buck wise, the current deals on Polk Monitor series speakers are excellent and give you a lot of speaker for the money. The only thing that comes close are the Jamo towers on sale at wwstereo.com

Wow I really like the E680 with 2 8" woofers , will the one with a single 8" woofer stay with the Polk Monitor 60's ? It's nearly half the price, and every penny saved is good to me

The smaller one is actually a single 6" woofer. It doesn't have a whole lot of bass. You'd want to use a subwoofer with it.

The larger E680 is an excellent speaker, especially for that price.
Can I use 2 E680's without a subwoofer and still have decent bass? What would be a nice 2 channel reciever thats on the cheap side? Thanks for all the help!
Yes you can. What's your price limit for a receiver?
If you do go the Polk route, I recommend not buying the PSW10. I owned one at one point and was very disappointed with it's performance.
You can go to Best Buy and listen to the Polk Tsi 400, they're similar to the Polk Monitor 60.

That's not much of a budget. You may want to look at one of the Harman Kardon refurbs on ebay or a Marantz from Accessories for Less. Those two brands generally have accurate power ratings and should work well.

Marantz 4001, free shipping

Harman Kardon AVR-254

Also these two Denon's may do the trick in your price range.

Onkyo has a couple in your price range

You can also try find a used receiver for cheap.

What about this? It's only a 2 channel, but thats all I really need, and then line inputs for the subwoofer? Or would it be best to get a 5.1 or 7.1 and just bridge the extra channels?

No Best Buys in Korea

That's fine too if that's all you need.

Do any of those places even ship to Korea?
Yes, I have an APO address.
AAFES has decent prices on Pioneer, Denon, and Yamaha receivers. I would recommend at least a 5.1 box, you can always use it in stereo mode, or stereo + subwoofer. But you have the option to add channels whenever you want.
