Hi – Looking to bounce some ideas and get any advice as I am a speaker noob!

Right now I use Polk speakers and I have been happy with the sound in the theater, but lately the sub has sounded really bad if being worked hard so I figured it’s on its way out and I need a new one. All the speakers are 6+ years old. After reading reviews here I settled on SVS as my next sub, and wanted to go large so was planning on the monster PB12-Plus! Now I am thinking that may be too much (if there is such a thing) as I don’t want my light fittings to be blown off the walls lol, plus I was thinking may be its time to replace all the speakers.

I read another review of the SVS Prime speakers and thought maybe that’s a good option. My original plan was to stick with Polk and use the LS in-wall for LCR as my options for speaker placement are limited. That got me thinking I might be better off with duel PB2000 subs and may be try and use Prime or Ultra bookshelf speakers with their corresponding center channel speaker for LCR and rear surrounds & keeping the

A bigger sub will usually give you more low freq freq performance. It will also give you louded volume at that freq, but you can control that! There really is no "too big" for a room, unless you are talking physically too big...
With multiple seating positions and a pretty big room, you almost certainly want to consider a couple subs (now or for future planning)

The SVS speakers are not meant for in-walls. They are counting on empty space around them for the best sound dispersion, and furthermore, by placing them in alcoves, you block the ports. The Polk speakers would be a much better choice for what you are planning to do, as they were designed for that type of use. As for subwoofers, for the same price as the PB12 Plus, you could get a Rythmik FV15HP or Reaction Echo 18, either of which would absolutely destroy the PB12 Plus in performance.

Thanks - I was thinking the same, not to try and fit a square peg into a round hole! Sounds like in wall for the LCR is a must have so I'll just have to get the best I can afford.
