i had a post a few days ago because i was tryin to find a 5.1 speaker package. after some research i've narrowed it down to 2 choices.

Polk Audio RM6000 $279.00

JBL SCS160 probably just a tad bit more than the polks

what do you all think, should i go with the Polk system or the JBL???

Definitely JBL, Polks (to me) are colored and muddy.

Ditto. I actually like JBLs and I have spent alot time in high end audio shops listening to speakers that cost many times as much.

The common opinion between myself and other friends of mine who are into higher end audio is that Polk's are some of the best speakers around for the money (from B&M stores)

speakers sound only as good as the receiver and visa-versa. that being said, if you have a decent receiver either will sound great. i personally like the JBL's but the best thing to do is audition both and decide for yourself.

I recently replaced the Polks I bought in 1979 with more Polks. So of course I'm recommending Klipsch. :D

I had that same setup a couple of years ago. It's the best satelite system I've heard but I would recommend trying to pair it with a better sub than what Polk offers.

I have the JBL SCS 150 set and I love it. Real even sound and the subwoofer delivers plenty of bass. Not to mention that the value per dollar is out of this world (I got my set from bestpriceaudiovideo.com for $300)!

However, it does depend on the size of the room as the speakers are small and it is only a 10 inch subwoofer.

I too have the JBL SCS150 in a rather small room (13x10) and I am very happy with them. The subwoofer can shake the whole house (getting a monster cable for it made a huge difference, by the way) ... However, I don't use them for my (mostly classical) music listening - only for movies on DVD.

Since this thread is over 2 months old, I imagine he would have already bought a set by now :p

Yeah, this is an old thread; hopefully ZippZopp is already enjoying whatever speakers he purchased.

I feel compelled to say I have a complete JBL Perfomance System in my HT, JBL L5s in my bedroom, L100 Centuries in my office, L7s and SVA1800s in my rec room, Simply Cinema in the guest room, and LX300s in the garage. Does that count as six votes?

I started out with a pair of JBL bookshelf's as my mains (N26s) Then I got a great deal on a pair of Polk RTA 11ts so I upgraded. Supprisingly the JBLs and the Polks match very closely (the bass is cleaner on the polks) so I moved the JBLs to my surrounds. The setup has worked so well in this config that I just got another pair of JBL bookshelfs to go 7.1.
