POLL: How much hd space is your DVArchive hosting?

488 Views 7 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Bixit219
Right now I've got 120 Gigs of my hard disk being eaten up by programs I think I just HAVE to save. Some I haven't even watched yet. Am I a pack rat?

Besides the 160G in my Replay that is usually 70-80% full, I have 2 PC's w/DVArchive set up. One has about 100 gigs of saved shows and the other has about 70.

I really use my DVArchive for just that; archiving. I don't think I ever moved anything onto DVArchive that I didn't already watch. I just save shows I know I'll watch in future, and always have a bunch of cooking shows. In fact, one of the PC's is *all* cooking shows.

The problem I'm having now is space. I really don't feel like adding any more HD space. I find the more space I have, the more I fill it up...no matter how much may seem 'enough'. It's a discipline thing. Really, just human nature. Ever notice that people NEVER seem to have enough space? We really like to fill up every available space, then move into something bigger; only to fill that up. It's vicious circle to get caught up in. The old 'nature abhors a vacuum' thing.

What I really need to do is start burning DVD's to free up some HD space...until I need a bigger house to store the DVD's.:D

Botton line: You're not that big a pack-rat. I think you'll find there are some here (I'm not mentioning any names, YOU know who you are) who have obscene amounts of space dedicated to DVArchive; not to mention multiple Replay units.

I agree. I think that we'd surprised by the results if the poll was broken into 250 GB, 500 GB , 750GB and 1 TB + increments.

Between RTV shows and Netflix DVDs ripped into DVArchive, I'd fit in the 1.2 TB range. Add in the four Replays (5200, 5250, 5250, 5300) and it's up to 2TB, although there's a lot of duplication between the RTVs and DVA server so I can support Poopli/IVS.
I should hit 2TB soon... (2 RTVs, 2 DVAs)

;)
with my DVA box, and replays, I have 1.8TB, I have another 250g drive in my gaming box, for more storage, so if I put that in the DVA server, I'd have 2TB, I agree, not enough options in this poll.
I just moved and bought a new PC. The old one I'm going to run strictly as a media center with DVarchive and all of my MP3's. When it's set up it will have a total of 500 gigs in it. Right now I'm stuck with only 80 in the new PC. Not too bad for a relative newbie.

18gb

and thats a bit high at the moment..

However, I don't use DVARCHIVE to serve video files, I just use it as an extraction tool to download video from my replay's to be burned to dvdr, once they are burned to a disc I nuke the files.. though on occasion I have used it as a server, I generally don't 99% of the time.. I got the space, 110gb, I just prefer not to keep the files around once they have been committed to disc.
