Last night they had a 15-minute tease for the new season, "The Celery Incident". TERRIFIC!


This show is great. Been watching it for several seasons now. My kind of humor.


Fred Armisen is going to be the house band leader on the new Seth Myers Late Night show, with time off when he needs to shoot this show..

FWIW, we did have a Portlandia thread around here, but it seems to have vanished.

Maybe a Mod can help us find it?


As an Oregonian, it's must watch TV for me.

However, the humor is perfectly transferable to other geographic locations around the country.

Its outrageous politically incorrect humor and sly social commentary is great....nothing on the tube is quite like it.


I have watched every episode, of course, and bought each of the seasons on the reasonably priced BDs.


I DVRed last night's episode and will watch tonite with my favorite amber ale.

Different strokes I guess.  As a life long Portland Metro area resident it just seemed dumb to me.  I tried to watch it a couple times when it first came on and lots of other people apparently like it, but it was painful for me.

I can understand your sensitivity to the series.

After all, it does skewer some elements of Portland.


The "skewering" that goes on in Portlandia can, and should, be applied to other communities in the WV.

In that way, I think it's fair.


And it isn't JUST the WV, it's also applicable to other states and towns as well.


BTW, I have lived in Oregon for 35 years, mostly in the mid WV, but have spent some time in Portland too.

As a recent Oregon transplant, I was almost offended your favorite amber ale wasn't local (until I saw they had locations in Salem and Clackamas)! But, I'm more of an IPA man myself.


I'd be lying if I said that Portlandia had NO impact on our decision to move to Portland at the end of last year. Not only did it crack us up, we loved the similarities the show portrayed to our previously favorite neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY (youngish, quirky, artsy types, emphasis on craft food and beer, very walkable neighborhoods with tons of shopping/dining/entertainment options). It actually caused us to start looking at Portland as alternative to the soul-crushing realities of the SF Bay Area (where families work 2 jobs just to afford rent on a 2 bedroom ranch house in a crappy school district, you spend 3 hours a day in traffic, and you never see your friends because they're scattered over a 50 mile radius). I've also found that the state of Oregon doesn't try to make your life as miserable as possible like CA does (car registrations that last for 4 years, friendly cops that aren't looking to pull you over for any possible cause, etc...)


Since we moved here, we've found brew pubs with play areas for the kids, movie theaters that serve food and beer/wine and provide baby sitting services, were able to buy a decent house for an affordable price, and I actually found a restaurant that served Pappy Van Winkle bourbon (if that existed in the Bay Area, all the Facebook/Google douchebags would descend en-masse, and drink it all in one night).


It's a virtual paradise for young adults and families!

I spent the first 10 years of my life in the Bay Area.

I went back for a little sightseeing this last summer and couldn't believe how horrible the place has become.

NO WAY I would ever consider re-locating there.

For me it wasn't really the skewering and lampooning of the area.  It just wasn't funny for me.  I didn't watch that much but it just seemed a lot like a typical SNL skit.  I will admit I very quickly got tired of all the "put a bird on it" references that kept popping up everywhere for months after that aired
