My cousin is looking to get some new speakers, and due to his budget, I am not able to advise him to B&W's and Energy's like mine. I really want him to have the best he can get, so do you have any suggestions for him? He was wanting to build his own speakers, but I told him I would check on here first to see what his options were with buying them. Thanks guys!

Any of the following three (in no particular order) would would fit the bill nicely, if he MUST get a 5.1 right away:

(i) Fluance SX-HTB 5 speaker set:

plus a Dayton sub:

or http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...=25&rak=daysub

(ii) The Athena Micra 6:

(iii) the Rocket Tykes 5.1:

Just do a search on AVS forums for reviews/feedbacks of any of the speaker systems listed above and you should find plenty.

Alternatively just spend that money on a nice pair of Front speakers + a sub for now, and expand later.

Audio Advisor is clearing out Athena AS-B1s for $100 a pair. Add the AS-C1 center for another $100 and one of the previous mentioned Dayton subs. Should be a nice little set up for under $500.

I've got Athena B2, B1, C1 and Dayton sub in my 5.1 setup and is sounds great. And you can get these brand new for $450 plus shipping. That's a very good deal!

b2 $150/pr

b1 $100/pr

c1 $100

Dayton 10" 100

Or get 4 b1's for $200 and save $50 over the B2 price.

Thanks guys. Yeah, he's going 5.1 right off because he sort of already has a 5.1 setup. The speakers he has now are my old, old, OLD speakers from way back, they are all mismatched, and crappy ones too. Thanks for the suggestions, they helped out a lot!
