I ordered the product that is connected to the link below. I've got some 4x3 burn in on my plasma. We'll see how this product works. I ordered it yesterday. It is to be shipped out today.

Please post your results, and wheter or not you get some of the other benefits they are touting, such as picture clarity, etc.

Thanks

I plan on using the entire DVD, not just the screen burn in portion. I will definitely post all of my results. If I can get my digital camera to stop over flashing, I'll also post some screen shots

Here's a free program to help remove burnin/IR/stuck pixels as well. They have a java applet that you can run on a PC or a downloadable that can be burned to DVD. Maybe try this one while you're waiting for the one you ordered. They mention the product you purchased as well.

Neat! I'm going to download it and see how it works. Thanks

EDIT: I downloaded the free stuff, but I have decided not to use it. I want to wait until the DVD that I ordered comes in so I can have a true evaluation of the product. Hey.. I paid for it, I might just as well wait for it and see what it does.

Update,

This program has begun to work. I've used it a third time this morning and the 4x3 burn in is beginning to reduce in intensity. I also emailed their tech support. They said--

"Removing screen burn can sometimes take time, if I can compare it to

staining a garment. If you have a coffee stain on a shirt and wash it with

a very strong stain removal substance this will get rid of the stain but

will also damage the fibres in the garment as it was to harsh. If you wash

the garment in normal powder, then after a few washes the stain is removed

and no damage has occurred to the garment.

So you may need to use the wash tool a few times.Keep using the DVD every

day for 2 weeks and it should help."

I have a 4x3 burn on my 4 month old samsung 5073(bummer) and am wondering how the DVD is working? It must have a reverse 4x3 image to age the outside pixels

or something similar.I will surely never buy plasma again,I did much research and did a proper breakin adjusted contrast etc to no avail. This boat anchor truly needs babysat in order to prevent this....kills the whole relaxation part of home theatre viewing.

Did you make sure to watch full screen only for the breakin period? If you have 4x3 burnin in just a matter of a few months, my initial guess would be that you primarily only watched 4:3 material, and did not vary content to ensure even phosphor wear.

Your samsung should have a built in white wash option under the burnin feature menu.

I did break it in for hundreds of hours on only 16x9 believe me,it still burned in after this and it does a signal wipe pattern or a white burn as well as pixel shift to remove some burn in...doesnt really help. The support at samsung sucks too, basically try to wash it and live with the results they said.I have seen many burnt plasmas lately(quality control issue with increase in demand?).This is a nice TV when new...dont use it like a TV!

Man, I am really sorry for you. The samsung 5073 looks nice in stores, but I did hear some issues of it being more prone to IR than the panasonic or pioneer, so I swayed away from them. I can't believe that it would get burnin that easy for you. Do you possibly have the option to hook up a PC, and maybe create an image/loop that would work just the phosphors in the 4:3 black bar area? It seems like if you could do that you might be able to aleviate the problem. A screen wipe, I would think, would not be to effective as you are wiping the whole screen, and not concentrating on the area with the phosphors that are not aged as long.

Another option would be to change the black bars on the sides to gray if you can. This would at least work the phosphors and age them with the rest of the screen, although the rate may not be the same.

how long did you run the the white wash? I found you have to run it quite awhile to get rid of some ir

i had some slight ir on mine when it was new but it went away after a couple hrs of white wash...I watch a good share of 4:3 as well as 16x9

I gotta say to continually bash all samsung plasmas in all your posts becuase you have had issues is ludicrous as there are many HAPPY Samsung owners on here as well who are not experiencing this issue.

I would say your being a bit defensive(samsung owner no doubt),I have many links to others about this that havent been to this forum(widespread) and the customer service sucks big time.Having owned 6 sammy monitors and 3 TVs I will no longer buy their products.New technology around the bend anyways.Anchors away.

Im not being defensive at all..i think you are being a bit whiney as a matter of fact

you are just shooting the whole pack of dogs because one has fleas like many seem to do on this forum..

and since you never even answered any question concerning some tips on possibly getting rid of the IR it sounds like you are just trying to vent instead of seeking ways of possibly fixing your problem

I gotta wonder why you would keep buying the same brand (Samsung)if you are unhappy with them anyway..you think they suck yet you bought 9 of thier products already????

anyway good luck with your future purchases..i hope it works out better for you

Panasonic and Pioneer are good too BTW

I have exhausted all options other than thousand of hours running till half life brightness of this set,it has several wash options(more than 4253,5053 etc) and they are all basically lip service, the true degradation of ANY plasma tv is very rapid when compared to original brightness. And I think you need something better to do with your time if this issue is a non issue for you (latent?).Have a nice day as I am buying new once again.

Fixing a burn-in image with a pattern generator is like fixing worn tires caused by a bad front-end alighment by rotating the tires.

Once the phosphors have started to give off less light, it is hard to stop using them and only use the others so that they can catch up. Prevention is worth a pound of image retention

Assuming phosphors decay inversely, older phosphors dim slower, while 'newer' phosphors dimming faster. Eventually they should catch up to a point where the difference in their brightness is imperceivable.

So, if that assumption is true, solid images of pure color do cure uneven phosphor wear, but slowly.
