Possible HD SDI/WM9 player modification?

Before there were HDMI and DVI outputs available for DVD players, there were the renegade SDI outputs. These were capable of transmitting digital 480i video to an SDI capable processor or display.

Maybe someone with HD SDI and WM9 decoding knowledge can answer this. I see that Gefen now has an HD SDI-DVI conversion box that accepts NTSC, PAL, 1080i, 720p and 1080p High Definition SDI signals.

Depending on the chip implementation, would it be possible to take the digital video signal (before D/A conversion) in the upcoming WM9 DVD players (capable of HD video) and use an HD SDI transmitter to do the same thing as those earlier 480i SDI transmitters?

If possible, it sure would make life a bit easier (though not cheaper) for those that do not have HDCP capable displays.

Just a thought.

It looks very similar to the HDVI-10 by Doremi Labs, which has a downloadable user manual .
