My tv remote will go for long periods without working. Noticed it did the same for the universal remote also. Could I just have a bad ir sensor or is there something else I could try before figuring out how to fix that. Any help would be really appreciated.

The location on the TV where you are pointing the remote may not be the location of the sensor. Use the remote very close to the TV to make sure you have the correct location.

Also make sure you are not changing the TV's universal remotes mode to cable or another device by mistake.

Strangest thing. All of a sudden the remote seems to be working again without a problem. Could there have been something in the house just breaking up the infrared signal?

Anyways; will keep an eye on it to see if it keeps working. Appreciate the advice, Walford.

A faulty regular or compact flouersant light can generate IR whiich could cause interference.

We had a problem once when a small chair was moved and blocked the path to our TV's IR receiver from some locations in the room before we realized what had happened.
