I was browsing the HTPC forum and came across this product that might act like a video switcher AND playback DVD at HD rez via DVI.

It appears to take multiple inputs (s-video, component, composite), scale them via a HOLO3DGraph card and output to DVI or VGA. AND it integrates a DVD player.

I am very interesting in this for the Sammy DLP TV.

What got me interested? I dragged my home computer over to my Sammy (well, I carried it) and hooked up via the graphics card (DVI) and played back Star Wars II on my DLP TV.

Oh, my god! The picture was 30% to 40% improved over my progressive scan Yamaha DVD player (with DCDi) and looked very Hi-Def.

Now I'm on this kick to get DVD playback via DVI while trying to avoid building a HTPC. Seems I can plug my SDTV sources into this box and get a DCDi scaler and have ONE input (DVI) to the TV solving the Discrete Remote Code issue.

Thoughts?

duffin,

No one was interested in this the first time you posted it today? :D Can you explain the 30% -> 40% in your comments? What was that different? The VGA port is supposed to have the same settings as DVI but, I do not see that much of a difference when playing a DVD on the HTPC through VGA and a PS DVD player.

Thanks,

You guys are thread savants! I can't keep up.

Ftlee,

The 30-40% increase was in detail, clearer dark areas, more acurate colors. My first experience with the PC inputs.

I'll check out these other suggestion when I get back from some meetings.

I looked at the switch box. I was planning on inputing s-video sources (Sat PVR) and DVI sources (HDTV tuner) with the solution I found.

The switch box won't get my s-video sources to the Sammy DCDi chip, right?

Duffin,

The asimilator looks pretty cool, but I think it's a bit high $. I think more than the Samsung 507, but not sure. If you go for it please keep us informed, I want to here about it.

Duffin, I just wanted to add, that I think the asimilator is one of the few scalers that will deinterlace and scale 1080i. Which means it will do a great job of taking HD material (most being 1080i) and providing it to the 507 in 720p via DVI.

Correct, I do not have any S-video sources but do have one component (DVD) but in the future, new DVD players are expected to have DVI out, cannot wait.

But I also use my HTPC for DVD playback, but since I only have one DVI in on the 507, I use the VGA for the time being...

Where did you hear that DVD players will have DVI out?
