DishNet wants $6/mo for their HD DVR service, which for a two year agreement means $144...I'd rather put that money into my own HD DVR instead if I can...even if the standalone is $200.


Should I just go with their HD DVR or put that money into my own HD DVR and is it possible to use a standalone DVR or do they do some sort of encryption so that you can only record using their unit?

bummer, no one has responded yet...I just need a little direction on this to get the ball rolling...I don't mind doing the reading, I would just like to know what direction to start looking...anyone?

You can only tune the channels using their equipment. The only way that you could get this to work would be to use on of their HD receivers, and a component video capture card to record the HD component video outputs onto a computer based DVR.
