My guess (and it's only a guess) is that the ferrite cores are used only for minimizing signal (noise) ingress and egress. More than likely, supplying the cores (and instructions for their use) is to permit the TV to pass FCC or other regulatory requirements. Of course, that only pertains to signal egress, which might have been a bit too much without the cores. It's most unlikely that anyone will notice any differences if they're attached or not. Likewise, it's most unlikely that they'll be any interference from the power line into the signal cables. It's hard to say if the cores are needed to reduce excess signal radiation or are merely there as a good precautionary measure. They can't hurt, and maybe I'll get around to installing the ones that came with our new 42PD25 one of these days!
Oh, just for giggles, one of the *%&* persons who delivered the set on Tuesday told me that the cores were some sort of hardware to be used when mounting the plasma on the wall and not to lose them! No joke! There was no point in trying to explain.
