I just moved and I'm setting up my home theater system.  I have the Pioneer VSX-1019AH with 5 JBL speakers and a sub-woofer.  Every time I try and run the MCACC it gets through analyzing about 2 1/2 speakers then the receiver shuts down.  Like a power surge.

The system is working (although it sounds like garbage.) Any thoughts or suggestions on why this might be happening?

Recheck all of your speaker wiring to make sure NO bare wires are touching the chassis or edge of the terminals on either the receiver or the speakers themselves. Best if you don't use bare wires at all if you are doing so. Banana plugs are best. the same for your subwoofer cable.

any shorts could activate receiver's amp protection circuit.

that would be the very 1st thing in troubleshooting.

unplug all but two speakers.... then try running the system. IF it works, add another speaker and try again.... keep going til it fails then check closer with the failure. IF it fails initial with just two, try two others and go again. IF it fails still, try different wiring and go again.

Further try resetting the avr if all else fails.
