i notice when i use the 'frame grab' feature in PowerDVD that the resultant image file is worse quality than the 'freeze frame' i see in PowerDVD. (the captured image features 'jaggies'/stairstepping i do not see in the freeze frame in PowerDVD)

- why is this?

- how do i fix it?

thks!

Well, PowerDVD 3.0 resamples frame captures to fix the aspect ratio, which I consider a major misfeature. However, luckily, it resamples them using a "Nearest Neighbor" algorithm. It just so happens that the algorithm is self-inverse. :)

So do what I do, and resample the captured image back to 720x480 (assuming NTSC) using "Nearest Neighbor". Then, if you want to fix the aspect ratio, resample to 854x480 or 640x480 or 720x540 depending on whether the content is 16:9 or 4:3 (and for this step, you should use bicubic or bilinear resampling).
