For your viewing pleasure. I put in a preorder for these a few months back after purchasing the maple versions of the XLS monitors. They sounded so sweet that I had to get the XCS's. But this time I thought I'd go with the limited run piano rosewood. I'm soooooo glad I did.

I got these a few weeks ago and had been meaning share, but haven't been able to get around to it until yesterday. Let me just say they look much better than the pics and sound absolutely wonderful. I'll have more sound imrpessions later, but strictly from an asethitc standpoint, what do you guys think these baby's would run at in a B&M store based on finish alone? Believe it or not, they will be replacing out the N802's in the last pic. I won't insult anyone's intelligence by saying they are better, but the N802's are going to another setup.

BTW, don't mind that mark in the thrid pic, it's from the camera. Enjoy!

Rob

What company makes these? and how much?
wow those are some sharp looking speakers. :)
The X-CS is from **********, $139 each.

The speakers in the last pic are the B&W Nautilus 802, $8000 new.
I'm pretty sure the Piano Rosewood costs a little more and may not be available now. I have an X-CS in White Shadow Maple. It goes for $139 + $40 shipping. Sounds quite good. A bit different than my Ascend 340SE, but still good.
The piano rosewood finish xcs cost $199, but unfortunately they were a limited run. Who knows though, maybe they'll do another run *hint, hint*.

I need another pair for the rear. The pics do not do them any justice. The N802's sound great as well, just not sure 40X better. :)

Each time I have to pass by them, I have to touch them, just to fell that finish.
now that i think about it.. those B&W look way too close to the wall, dont they need a little more breathing room?

They do indeed. I pull them out each time I use them.
Please tell me those B&W are going into a system with a better display - I can hear them crying with despair from here! :p
You know, there are a lot of companies that do a "Piano Gloss" finish on their cabinets. They use a "gloss" laqueur or acrylic finish of some sort and call it piano gloss. Regardless of how the other companies do it.... After viewing AV123's version of PG on a pair of black Reference 3's, and learning of their 20 something step hand rubbed process on their PG.... none of the others (that I've personally seen anyway) can even come close. I too was simply "forced" to touch the finish every time I got close. Kind of like the sign that says "wet paint." Something in your sub conscience just makes you reach out and touch it.... ;)

Of course, in a speaker.... it's all about the sound. But if form is as important as function, well the XL-s and XC-s have both in spades. For the stupid good pricing on these things (just BARELY over $200 per pair with a real wood veneer satin finish and around $280 with the PG finish), many folks just may kick themselves for plunking down their hard hearned $$$ for some plastic or vinyl wrapped boxes. Even their utalitarian black is a nicely done finish.

On the other hand, those wanting to truely experience fine cabinet craftsmanship along with an entry level audiophile product will be hard pressed to do better elsewhere. The XL-s/XC-s are very nice sounding speakers for the $$$.... and are extremely well done with the standard finish. But the PG..... just WOW, wow, wow.... simply stunning.

Fear not stu.... AV123 will often times do a limited run in a special finish to "guage" the popularity of the finsh. With the incredible acceptance of this run.... I would guess another "special run" or a permanent offering in the PG will happen for sure. Maybe not right away, but sometime in the near future.

Yes, yes. I agree. They are going into the theater room with a PJ or another stand alone dedicated 2 channel room. I've been trying to sell that TV for months now.
$100 TV and $8000 speakers......something doesnt seem right to me.

Hey now, you can't deny it's value. Look at the dollar to poundage ratio. :D
I did some casual listening tonight (mostly Jopek) and I must say that the XCS's sound is equal to it's great looks. Bass was tight and punchy. The speaker is quick and smooth. Very neutral and revealing of upstream equipment. I was playing around with different integrated amps, melody, krell 400xi, joilda1000a, and I could easily pick up the nuances. I think I prefer the melody over others. Very nice and HIGHLY recommended set of speakers. I just don't know how MLS does it. Can you tell I'm pleased? :D
