I was in contact today with an established HTPC dealer who is shipping systems with the XP OS now. I want a hassle free operation (to the extent possible).

Would it be premature to jump into an XP HTPC now?

Thanks for any advice/comments.

That was a great thread that died out 3 weeks ago. With the more recent XP release hopefully we can get some more good feedback. I'm ready to take the plunge but don't want to be a beta tester.

Tom,

I agree that as a customer you should not be a beta tester. That’s why I’ve been testing XP and new hardware for almost three weeks to insure we have stable and functional hardware/software before offering XP as an option on our DC RAD HTPCs. I’m very pleased with the progress made so far.

Hi Cliff:

___I see a few problems w/ XP that no one seems to discuss. Auto switching drivers for CD/MP3 audio from the M-Audio cards is one, a hit in terms of fast execution of SW from the time you click the mouse, and various reg entries that are not the same as they were under Win98 SE/Millennium. These are the same problems found under Windows 2000 although the display issues w/ the latest DirectX and latest players has cured that problem. If you know of any others, please post. I am installing Win XP as well but only after a discussion of these problems before the first light off of the boxes …

Wayne,

What ever are you on about? Details, I need details. ;)

Actually, I didn’t think there was a problem because I’m having perfect audio switching with the Delta cards in WinXP and using the posted M Audio WDM drivers. Of course there is no DTS CD audio pass-thru and 24/96 audio is down-sampled to 24/48 because of the KMixer/SRC.

Hi Cliff,

which MAudio do you have in your HTPC? The M-Audio Audiophile 24/96?

I am interested in feedback in the DD,DTS DVD capability of that card. I have WIndows XP, and I am about to purchase it (have Windows XP) and I am interested in your feedback...

Does it perform well?

I did hear that it had problems with Windows XP...

BTW, I managed to crash it four times trying to revert to the old ATI drivers... bless them...

:D
