Premature interruption, can it be done?

Suppose a show is being recorded, is it possible to end the recording prematurely without deleting what has already been recorded?

Yes...when you press stop, there will be options to either 1) continue recording 2) stop and save recorded segment or 3) stop and delete recorded segment
He's LYING! You have to pull the power cord, it's the only way!

Have a nice day. Take two, there small...

Um.... I'm forgetting, but is saving the portion already recorded just a 4K/5K feature? I seem to recall that stopping the recording on an older machine deletes it no matter what (although you do get a warning message).

Good question...I was referring to my own 5040 machine.
I can't remember how the pre-5000's handle this, worst case scenario you can force a reboot, which will split the recording into two files, you could then stop the recording & delete the 2nd file when it's done rebooting. Having said this, I think there is a way to stop the recording, I just can't remember the exact message you get when you hit stop on the early units.
All ReplayTV's will automatically save or give you the option to save any recording stopped using the "stop" button.
MikeyBoy's correct. The older 2000/3000's, of which I have one of each still being used daily, will save the segment up until you hit the stop button. Actually on the 2000/3000's you have to hit stop twice. The first time prompts you to make sure that's what you want and tells you to hit stop again if you are sure you want to stop recording.

I have two 5540's one 2060 (originally a 2020), and a 3060 (originally a 3030) so I can't speak of how a 4000/4500/5000's does it, if any differently.
I guess I was remembering it wrong. The older models automatically save the recorded portion (after you hit stop twice) while the newer models give you a prompt asking if you want to "save the recorded portion", "delete the recorded portion" or to "cancel and keep recording."
