I just went to CompUSA to pick up a 5pk of "SmartDisc" brand DVD-Rs for $19.99.... they're still there at this price but lo and behold, CompUSA brand DVD-Rs are $3.99 each, and a 5pk is $17.99!! Also, CompUSA brand DVD-RAM discs have been reduced to $5.99 from $7.99! These are definitely the lowest prices I've seen from a local store (I'm in the Austin area).

I have used the CompUSA brand DVD-RAM discs in the Panasonic DMR-E20 before and they worked perfectly.... I will try one of the DVD-Rs later tonight and post my results.

Keep your fingers crossed! This is definitely heading in the right direction. I no longer feel presurred to take the chance of buying a whole bunch of discs online only to find out that they give me errors.... once the 5pks drop to $15 and below locally, I'll be real happy.

I saw these CUSA brand discs, but they were not marked down on the shelf. This is not unusual, as they oftentimes don't even have prices on the shelfs at all, let alone newly marked-down items.

The CUSA brand said "for PC DVD-R drives" or something like that, and there was no reference to "2.0" like on many blanks. So I didn't want to chance it.

Please let us know if they work. I'd rather buy locally when I need them if possible.

By the way, these come with REAL jewel cases and are in a CUSA cardboard box. The DVD face is silver with a CUSA logo....looks like the CDRs if you've seen them. Very nice find!!

I second that - the CUSA discs work perfectly in the e-20. I did a timer-based FR recording (2h 15m)... everything recorded fine, I added a program and disc title, finalized the disc, and it plays back perfectly in both my Toshiba 3750 and Apex 1500.

What a great find.... $3.60 a disc before tax.... a great price for reliable media that can be bought locally!

Now if only we could find an e-tailer that sells el-cheapos that are 100% guaranteed to work in the e-20!

I just wanted to report that I have bought Imation brand DVD-RAM Type 2 discs at CUSA for 9.99 and they work perfectly. I have not tried the house brand. I have had good luck with Meritline DVD-R's. I have burned about 20 with no problems on my DMR-E20. I have, however, had 2 out of 5 failures with Cdrecordable discs. They appear to be spotted in the way they look and just look inferior to me.
