During the scene when Leloo and Dallas are running from the cops and the cops open fire on Dallas' cab, I get lots of digital garbage. It looks like digital satelite or cable when the signal is borderline. Almost all of the rest of the movie is fine, the only other time it does this is very briefly in the big gunfight on Fhloston Paradise.
Is it the DVD, my drive (DVD-ROM) or the software player (PowerDVD) that is the likely culprit? Any other possibilities? No other DVD has ever done this.
Just for the sake of doing it, I ripped the movie to my HDD, it still breaks up in exactly the same spots.
And if this is the only disk it happens on that would tend to rule out the player/software, especially since it happens on a rip as well. I've never heard of anyone having issues with FE, certainly not with PowerDVD. Sounds like a dirty/damaged disk. I bought a product at my local (non-B*llbuster ) video store called Video Playright that is awesome at buffing out minor to medium scratches. As anal as I am about handling disks it's still managed to happen to a couple!! (Of course, this is assuming the DVD didn't behave like that from day one; I have had some defective disks as well!)
FrankS: no, I dont have one. My inlaws do, but the disk has already gone back to the rental store.
FredProgGH: I didn't notice anything particularly dirty or scratchy about the disc, typical signs of age and rental. I didn't try to clean it or anything, since it kept on playing and the problem only lasted about 5 seconds or so. Usually when a disc is dirty PowerDVD throws up a dialog and complains about it.
Mostly suspecting it is just this particular disc being slightly defective. Hope so. I really love this movie and think I will probably buy a personal copy at some point.
