I've been testing my new Toshiba HD-XA2 all day and it's awesome with the exception of using the Analog audio outputs. I CAN get audio out of it using the Optical output driving the optical input on my Outlaw 990 processor but when I try using the 5.1 analog outputs I'm not getting any audio. I have them connected to the 7.1 analog input section on the 990.


I've messed around with all the settings on the 990 and the audio setup on the XA2 but I get nothing. I'm sure I'm just missing something.


Anybody have any thoughts or other ways to test it? I can't imagine it's defective. it has to be a setting issue on the 990 side or the XA2 side.


For now I'll keep using optical until I can figure it out.

That's strange, do you have the 990 on the correct input? I Have an HK receiver and the receiver must be on either 6 or 8 Channel Direct to get the audio from my Denon 2910. I don't have an XA2 yet, maybe you must enable the analog out in the menu system.

I don't see any specific setting in the XA2's audio menu other than a 5.1 choice over 2.0. I have it set to 5.1.


On the outlaw I have the XA2 setup as a programmed input with video coming from one of the switched DVI inputs and the audio input set to analog.


I'll keep messing with it.

On the bottom of the controller you have to set it to 7.1 direct.It will show up on the display screen

Thanks Problem Solved. It turns out that I had the audio input for this device configured to "analog" but that was the two channel analog inputs. As Kano pointed out there is a separate "input" on the Outlaw 990 called Direct 7.1 that handles the analog inputs. Once I figured that part out (it wasn't obvious) it worked.


Now i need to sit down with a few HD-DVDs and see if I can really hear the difference.
