Problem: Hum from Toshiba W804 S-VHS VCR

467 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  woowoo
My new Toshiba W804 S-VHS VCR generates a full-time hum sound from inside its chassis. It hums when it's powered on and when it's powered off. It hums when the cable-TV RG6 is connected, and it hums when it's disconnected -- even when the cable line is completely disconnected from everything in the house. It hums when the power cord is plugged into my Panamax MAX-1000+ with all my other components. It hums when it's plugged directly into the wall socket. It hums when I remove it from my equipment rack, and plug it into a wall socket in the kitchen, the living room, the bedroom. It's a really maddenning, high-pitched hum -- like when a camera flash is charging. I don't think it's the usual ground-loop problem. Am I wrong? Any thoughts on what else it could be? I'd appreciate any adivce you might offer. Thanks.

if it generates hum when its powered off with the cable unplugged - it must have some kind of problem or big mis match with the rest of your equipment. if you can take it or send it back. what were you using before? i use mitsubishi svhs and love them.

You know why it hums? It doesn't know the words. You could try a hum isolation filter. I like the RFG-1 from Sonance (about $50.00, though).
It shouldn't possibly hum when your cable line is disconnected from it! Bring it back!
The problem is in the power supply

Take it back
