Hi, I know nothing too much about RPTVs, but i'm asking for a friend.

The problem is that there is masking or like a red shadow following the image, the picture taken shows a lot of text, the problem is the lines and stuff behind the text.

He has had this tv for:

less than 2 years.

he noticed the artifacts like a few months ago.

it is on all inputs.

he tried screwing around with the menu, including some sort of shadow masking option, no change.

Please help, if possible.

I would suggest you try this if you are comfortable with going into the service menu.

thanks for the advice. does that mean, that its a fairly common problem, or are you just guessing that could fix it?

also, is there a hard/factory reset, in case he messes up?

thanks for the file though
It is fairly common. This is no guess. That is the Sony procedure.

There is no reset to fix a problem.
he says he followed the guide, and its already set to 14, so he couldnt really "fix" it. Is there anything else he can try? its out of warranty and Sony wants $500 to fix it. is there a way to get it done for cheaper or any other way? please, help if you guys have anythign else to suggest.

He needs to let Sony fix it. Either he is incapable of following the procedure or it did not work. It does not matter which of those is the case the answer is the same. It does not sound to me like he got to step 4 which is the key step.
If its only on one input, can he just switch the device to another input?
he says its every input
