I recently got a new lite-on 5005 DVD recorder to replace my old one that died. Now I get a light vertical bar that rolls from right to left across the screen during the live video feed. When I play DVDs, everything is normal. I think it might be interference from something in the area, but it didn't happen before so I'm confused. The 5005 is located between a VCR and my A/V receiver which leads to the tv.

A visual roll is probably a ground loop. The usual culprit is an ungrounded cableTV coax. If you have cable, see if unscrewing it clears up the image. An internet search on ground loop will provide lots of info.
