Hello,

I am tthe owner of a Rotel RSX1056 and I am living in Holland. So excuses when my english is not that good.

I have had many good years with this receiver, but now I have a problem with

the optical input. When I connected my cable receiver from Humax to the optical input it did not work.

When I pulled the cable out a little bit, signal was coming in and it played normal.

When I zap to another channel on the cable receiver signal is lost again.

Then I only get sound again, when I pull the cable again

Bey the way, my blue ray player does not have any problem on optical.

Further I tried the cable receiver on a other HT-receiver and there it was properly working.

I also checked my optical cable.

Is there someone out there who resolved the same problem or knows what is the cause for this?

Greetings

Welcome to AVS Forum. Your English is fine.

If you tried using the Blu Ray player's optical cable with the cable box and got the same issue, then the issue is more likely with the cable box optical output connection. If the cable box has a digital coax (orange) jack, try using that instead of the optical output. If you don't have a digital coax cable handy, you can use a "yellow" composite video RCA cable (part of red/white/yellow cable) as a suitable substitute and connect it to one of the digital coax inputs next to the optical inputs on the Rotel.

HI

Thanks for your reply. There is only a optical audio output on the cable receiver.

Also there is a standard analog terminal. Yes and HDMI ofcourse but there is not one on my

receiver. So optical it is.

Can there be a kind of handshake problem as it is with HDMI products?

I also tried the other input, with the same result, I didnt know there was such a converter on the market

But its quite a huge price. Maybe I better bring it to my dealer for service.

After an other look for such a convertor the prices seem affordable. I think I try this. Thanks

But it might be that I purchase an new receiver with all the new functions on board.

I am thinking on Onkyo TX-809 or Marantz 7005.

Do you think the sound qualty of these machines is as goog as the Rotel?

Wich other receiver in this pricerange is worth considering in your opinion?

Max price for me is about 1000euro

The receiver must have pre out because I use a tube amp for the front speakers.

Further is a last years model no problem
