I just purchased a new Samsung PN50B540 television and I have noticed a light gray inch thick vertical band on the very right edge of the TV. It is most noticeable on a black background and can be very distracting when watching the TV. A feint outline of the band is visible when the TV is turned off. I was wondering if this is burn-in/image retention or could it be a different problem?

Call samsung and get an auth tech to look at it.

Does this "band" match the size and position of something that you had on the screen for an extended period? Like a 4/3 border, game/computer screen, etc.

Either way, I would try running the anti-image retention features for a while.

If it doesn't clear, call it a defect and exchange the set.
