This is a really weird, annoying thing that's kind of hard to explain, so bear with me. I've got a channel for This Life, Mon-Thurs nights on BBC America. Last week I had it set for 4 hours--the whole week of programs. On Thursday night, I watched the Monday and Tuesday episodes, deleting them and changing the amount of guaranteed space each time. So at about 11 on Thursday night, I had 2 hours guaranteed, one for the Wednesday episode and one for the episode currently recording. Okay. So I was also keeping track of the episode that was currently recording, because I know that the episodes are usually only 50-55 minutes and I've become a total freak about saving space. (Can't wait for my 3060.) The currently recording episode ended at 11:20, and I hit Stop twice to stop the recording. And THEN, it started right up recording again and deleted the Wednesday episode! After which I got all pissed off and pushed a bunch of buttons and somehow managed to also delete the first 50 minutes of the just-recorded Thursday episode as well. I think maybe I hit Stop again, and it started up yet again.

Does that make sense? I'm not sure why it started recording again after I hit Stop, but I'm guessing that it then deleted the preceding episode because it "thought" there wouldn't be enough guaranteed space otherwise. I don't know. All I know is, I'm totally, pathetically hooked on This Life, and now I'll have to wait for the repeats of those two episodes...

It was just trying to outguess you.

When you hit stop to end the current recording, it did, indeed, stop as instructed. Then, when you changed the recording options, it checked to see if it should be recording now. The answer was yes, so it first did the housekeeping chore of deleting the old show to make room for the new one, then start recording the new one.

All I can say is that you've learned a tough lesson about trying to muscle the machine. I'd be willing to bet that they never considered the scenario of "users who have guaranteed programs who then reduce the size of the theme after stopping a recording in progress but is still active on the program grid with prior episodes already recorded". Conversely, they likely took into account the possibility of someone changing options in such a way as to make a recording of a show already in progress.

In other words, this won't be fixed without the famous "To-Do" list.

Crap... so basically, I did exactly the wrong things in exactly the right order. Well, I just got my 3060 last night, so I probably won't need to be as nuts about conserving space. Or at least I'll only need to do it 1/3rd as often. Or something.

I have similar problems with having enough recording space to quarantee everything I want. Here's what I do that's slightly different than how you're doing it.

I set up the thing I want to record as NON-gauranteed. Then I use the "Find all Shows" and hand select the shows I want to record and set them as individual records gauranteed. That way each show has it's own entry in the Replay guide and I don't have to worry about what bit you.

Then as I watch and delete the individual shows my available recording space automatically increases without having to change any options for any shows. Then next week I pull up the non-gauranteed entry pick "Find all Shows" and start the process all over again.

I've got a 2020 and a 3030 and with the new season, starting I am just barely getting a full weeks of gauranteed recordings on the 2 Replay's and my 3 VCR's <G>. And the real fall season hasn't even really started yet with the Olympics and debates and such!
