problem with vip 622 dvr

Here lately when fast forwarding my dvr, I've noticed that the timer seems to be off and it will not stop where I tell it to stop. It can be anywhere from 20 seconds to 4 minutes from the scene that is displayed when I press play. It only recently started doing this, so I suspect that it downloaded some "update" that f'ed it all up. Has anyone else noticed this problem or does anyone have a solution? It's really frustrating when you get to the scene you want, press play, then have to rewind because it started playing 4 minutes ahead of where you pressed play.

I have the same problem on occassion. I forward fast and it decides where to restart it's playback...not me. The DVR also seems to jump to Live TV if I have paused it for less than, say, 30 seconds.

The only thing that has sometimes worked for me is to Stop playback of the recording, exit the menu, and then go back in to Resume playback again. This works some of the time, but if the actual recording is bad for whatever reason (weather, bad OTA feed, etc.), stopping and starting won't fix the problem.
I just read on the dbstalk forum that this is a known bug with the l5.11 firmware. Nothing we can do until dish releases a fix.

You are correct. I have the problem with my two 622's and my son has it with his 722.

I confirmed all of this with E*** tech support. There is no fix in sight. I can't believe this thread isn't a lot larger, as I have had the problems for weeks and the tech told me he has had numerous calls.

Grounds to cancel w/o penalty in my opinion.

You would think E*** would post something about this. They must figure that if they hide the problem will go away.

The fix has been downloaded. Seems to work as well as before.
Yes, the fast forwarding is fixed, but now I'm having audio and video glitches. As soon as dish releases an acceptable firmware, with no major glitches, I'm unplugging the phone line so they can't screw it up again. This receiver worked fine for a year with no problems until they started "updating" it. If I could get my hands on the firmware that originally shipped with this unit I would "downgrade".

At least DISH releases updates on a regular basis. With Cable, you would be stuck with serious flaws for years if you waited for them to fix things. The DISH DVRs work better than anything I have used since perhaps the 2 tuner SD DirecTivos, and obviously the DISH product is better than that since it will do things like MPEG4, HD, etc.

Ted
the dish 622/722 is as good as a tivo, but then it is a tivo as they infringed on the patents. whatever, works great for me
