How are your two displays configured using clone mode or extended desktop mode and which one is set as the primary display?

I have a Thermaltake DH102 case with incorporated LCD monitor.
My motherboard is an ASUS M3A78-T with AMD 860 Phenom CPU and 2Gb of RAM. I am using its IGP (ATI HD 3300).
DVD playback on internal LCD monitor is fine. When I attach a Sanyo PLV-Z4 projector (1280x720) straight through hdmi, it is recognized properly but the image is not steady, as if it has interference or loses hdmi link.
The hdmi cable is 14 m long, but it's Monster Cable top quality and I did not have problems with it in the past even through a receiver. Furthermore, in the past I was able to link the above projector to another HTPC and I never had HDMI exchange problems.
I installed the latest ATI 9.6 driver. That is the no. of the whole utility, as in reality the driver number is 8.6 dated May '09. I did not install ATI Catalyst Control Center. The previous driver version was giving me the same problem with CCC installed.
I doubt the problem is the cable.
Is there something I can do to make it work?
Is there some special setup for this motherboard?
Any recommended set-up in the MB bios?
Any utility that might help me?
Thanks in advance.

Nosferax,
I checked 1280x720 at 50Hz and 60Hz. I am in PAL land.
Given the result, obviously I am not 100% the projector can deal with the signal I am feeding.
Cable is good but perhaps these two devices cannot handshake properly.
BTW, I made a mistake is "Monoprice top quality cable"!!!
walford,
problems do not depend on the video source I send, but on the initial handshake between devices. Indeed, they start as soon as I make the 2nd display active at [email protected]
Afterwards, my usual procedure is to move PowerDVD window to 2nd display and begin playback.
