Hello everybody, maybe someone could give me a little help on this:


Sometimes, when I'm using my Davis DLS8 the lamp goes off after 5 minutes. The projector denies powering on for 2 mins but after that it works fine. Anyone here who also discovered this problem?

Sounds like an over heat problem. Make sure all the vents are clear.

Its normal for it not to power up right after it powers down. Its going through its normal cool down time for the bulb.

Hi Mike,

You might also check how many hours you have on the lamp (the hours are shown as one of your on-screen menu selections). What you have described isn't normal.

the lamp has ~100 hours. The vents seem to be clear. Maybe there's something wrong with the overheat-mechanism..? But what makes me wonder is that it only happens 1-2 from 10 times and after the first power-down it works properly.

I agree with Alan. Very common symptoms for overheating due to airflow problems.


If cleaning vents &/or filters doesn't cure it, you may need to pop the cover and clean it inside. Just be careful. I know one guy who vacuumed a prism right out of his projector!

NO PROBLEM - though the problem usually accours after 11 minutes.


Davis put in a new heatshield with a thermosensor mounted on the back... The problem is that the heatsensor measures the temp. in the plastic and not in the projector. Therefore you need to drill 3 holes in the heatshield right behind the thermosensor - this will solve you're problem.
