Here is my situation:
We just got locals here in the Altoona-Johnstown, PA market. Called to get my programming upgraded and needed a second dish because of the alignment of the satellite for locals. Went ahead and got the HD dish as well, as I have a HDTV but just now got to getting the service. Rep was so-so... got the package for 349, but waived the fee to transpose the receiver to my sons room from the living room and run service to that. Also, said I could get the OTA antenna for $50... but I had a $50 credit for it so it basically came free.
Installer comes..... was at house for two hours on Monday, needed to come back to finish on Tuesday. Wednesday he was here for SEVEN HOURS! I was at work but wife was home.... here is a synopsis:
1. Used my existing dish to get the locals.
2. Installed the HD Triple LNB Dish
3. Told my wife I DID NOT NEED THE ANTENNA to receive the HD Broadcasts from ABC, NBC, etc.....
4. Hooked the HD Receiver up, which he told me the previous day was the Sammy, and it didnt work.
5. He made 3 calls to find out that this receiver was not compatible with my HD Dish.... WHAT???? Told my wife that all the ones they have in the warehouse are the same, and they are not compatible.
6. Locals wouldnt work downstairs ... he had a different access card overnighted to my house, but that evening my locals worked without yet having received the new card.
I called D* and complained.... gave me a 75 dollar credit towards my purchase price. Complained about being told that the antenna was not needed, etc etc. Two days later, and still no contact from the installer or D* about finishing the job. I am at WITS end and highly p-o'd. There is a company local who does installs for Dish, D*, etc... I wonder if I have the option of getting these guys to finish this job. I have my doubts about this installer even KNOWING how to do the HDTV install. These other people did my initial install, as I went to them, and it went beautifully.
Looking for some input here.... my first intuition is to tell D* to shove this whole thing up their rearend and switch to Dish, but I have NFL Sunday Ticket which I cant give up!!
