Hello all,

Weird problems with Windows media center.

Here is my PC specs:

HP Pavilion Elite e9150t PC

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-920 processor (2.66GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache with QPI Technology)

6GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [3 DIMMs]

1GB ATI Radeon HD 4650 [DVI, HDMI, VGA]

Blu-ray player & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner

The problems are:

-Windows media center choppy playback of .avi movies.

-Windows media center when starting a .avi movie it for the first minute it display a black screen but plays sound normally. I have to hit pause couple times and the video appears.

The funny thing is that I don't have any problems when I use Windows Media Player to play the same files. Windows Media Player plays it smooth with no problems. Just Windows Media Center that has the problem.

Any ideas?

what codecs are you using?

I used Handbrake to conver the DVD to .avi.

in handbrake I specified the ffshow codec. Not sure if thats the right one.

But the weird thing is that WIndows Media Player has no problems.. it plays the .avi movie just fine.

Its Windows media center the one that is acting weird. It first doesn't show any picture at the beguning of the movie.. not until I hit "pause" or something. Then it shows the picture.. No problems with the sound. It also plays the movie a little bit choppy. Just enought that you notice. Specially in repid moving scenes.

ANy thoughts?

WMC always uses 64 bit codecs and by default WMP is the 32bit version, so it uses different codecs. I do have a utility which changes the default version of WMP but this is in a codec pack (Shark007) which some people avoid although I haven't had a problem with it.

Thanks guys.

I installed FFdshow and haali both x64.

I'm still having the same issue.

Do I have to configure them some how?

I just let them install themselves. I didn't configure anything after that. Do I have to do anything else??

install graph edit and see what codecs are being used when you play a file.
