Processor Line Doubling Question for improving non-HD Satellite picture

857 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  louthewiz
Does the internal processor's on DLP projectors do Line doubling? (Toshiba MT-800/ InFocus 7205 with Faroujda) I didn't see anything about it in the menu or manual.

The reason I ask is because of the poor quality of Satellite Non-HD . Part of my problem may be that my tuner box only has S-video outputs but my pre-pro converts it to Component and sends to projector.

I have an option to purchase a DVDO iScan pro processor to use for a line doubler/scaler for $95.

Would this unit improve my non-HD picture quality because of the Line Doubling capability?

Thanks,

Mike

All fixed pixel displays have de-interlacers and/or scalers in them. If the Pro does a better job than the processing in the display then you will see an improvement. For $95 it's worth having a go....but I think you'd be better savng for a newer higher spec scaler.

Thanks Gordon,

I guess I can ask the guy if I can try it before I buy.

I'd love to buy a better scaler but I think my next step would be to upgrade to better satellite equipment with component outputs and HD.

My current PRE/PRO, Sherwood Newcastle P-965, does converting from S-video to component output. Would it be doing any kind of scaling during this conversion or is that taking place in the Faroujda inside my projector?

Lou,

I assume you pointed me to one of the S-video converters(~$200)?? I wonder if my Pre/PRo (Sherwood Newcastle P-965) does the same thing or maybe it's not turned on in the Pre/Pro.

So you kept your device (sat box) with S-video ouptuts and put this box in the line to the display. What type of display were you using?

My 720p epson projector and my 1080i crt hdtv,

The results were very satisfying...
