Runco Releases Newly Designed Generation of Integrated Plasma Displays

43- and 50-inch Models Feature Acclaimed Vivix Processing Technology on a Modular Card

Union City, CA… Runco International, the acknowledged leader in video technology for high-end home theater, has released its new 16:9 widescreen Cinema Wall™ CW-43MC and CW-50MC plasma display monitors. For the first time, Runco has integrated the basic functionality of its acclaimed Vivix processing onto a modular card, to be used in a flat panel display. These models bring plasma-TV performance to a new level, with bright, defined, detailed pictures and impressive contrast and color from screens less than 4-1/2 inches in depth.

"It's no secret that plasma displays are wildly popular with consumers," says Runco founder and CEO Sam Runco; "The appeal of a bright, flat, self-contained screen is very alluring. But achieving legitimately high-end video from plasma technology is not that simple, especially from a one-piece design. Runco has worked hard to optimize these new, fully integrated flat-screen sets with a proprietary technology that produces the vivid color, deep blacks, and controlled gray-scale performance that serious video reproduction demands-and that discerning viewers rightfully expect from a Runco product."

The integral Vivix circuitry performs orthogonal line processing and deinterlacing, ensuring the best possible image regardless of a program's origin, be it film or video, with vividly accurate, deeply saturated color and superior brightness and contrast-without the visible artifacts so often seen from more conventional processing. Additional Vivix technology advancements include Active Grayscale Rendering, which maintains smooth, progressive transitions within darker to lighter picture areas, producing depth of textures and shadow detail unmatched among plasma designs. The result is the superior plasma performance only available from Runco displays.

These two new plasma displays augment the versatile PL-43HDX and PL-50HDX, which include Runco's external PFP Controller, designed to provide more sophisticated control functionality and connectivity in addition to full-featured Vivix processing.

The CW-43MC and CW-50MC were engineered for custom-installation ease and media-system integration, with fully capable RS-232C serial interfaces, comprehensive infrared remote and full automation control. What's more, the new Runco plasma sets feature a DVI/HDCP input for digital 480P source material, permitting direct digital-video interconnection with compatible sources such as recent DTV tuners or new-generation DVD players, yielding even greater clarity and detail. The new CW-43MC has a native resolution of 1024 x 768 while the CW- 50MC displays 1280 x 768, easily accommodating all HDTV sources.

Founded in 1987 and currently headquartered in Union City, California, Runco International is a market leader in state-of-the-art front projection systems, flat-panel plasma monitors, video processors, and source components for the consumer market. Runco's innovations have won numerous awards and citations from the world press. Runco was the first company to introduce and market a line doubler with a multi-frequency projector in 1990 and also introduced the first multiple-aspect-ratio controller, the ARC-IV, to the Home Theater market in 1992. Recently, both of these features have become necessary for the new digital high definition capable televisions. For more information on Runco International, visit the Web at www.runco.com.

Runco Introduces Next Generation Digital Video Processor

New Model Establishes Benchmark for Quality and Performance

Indianapolis, IN….September 6, 2003….Runco International, the acknowledged leader in video display technologies for high-end home theater, announces the first of its next generation digital video processors. The all-new DHD-12 boasts 21st century design and engineering, with sophisticated processing capabilities, providing unprecedented performance.

"We designed this product to enhance all standard and HDTV material for widescreen viewing with perfection. This processor has multiple output capabilities and the ability to individually manipulate every type of signal, providing precision customization for every conceivable configuration with the greatest of ease. The DHD-12 is Runco's most versatile processor to date, and will set the standard for enhanced video processing," said Bob Hana, President of Runco.

The DHD-12 incorporates Runco's new ViVix IIâ„¢ digital video processing, with its digital and analog enhancement capability. The pure digital signal output sets this model apart from other video processors on the market today. Runco employs Orthogonal Line Correction to address time elapsed field video issues and eliminate artifacts. Multiple resolution output capability includes 480p, 576p, 720p and 1080i, as well as 1024 x 768, 1280 x 768, 1366 x 768 and 1280 x 1024, all with multiple aspect ratios. The DHD-12 also incorporates proprietary 3:2 and 2:2

pulldown processing for maximum quality at both 50Hz and 60Hz playback from programming originating on film, and videophile-grade edge enhancement. To protect against 4:3 image burns when used with plasmas, the DHD-12 provides gray sidebars to greatly reduce or eliminate the possibility of causing burn-in damage to the display.

The DHD-12 comes with two DVI inputs fully compliant with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) protocols for copyrighted HD sources. To assure full performance in any system configuration, the DHD-12 is equipped with flexible input and output options. Incoming video is also accepted in SDI (Serial Digital Interface), RGBHV, Pr-Y-Pb, Composite, S-Video, and Component Video. In addition, an IR and RS232 system control interface and three 12-volt DC triggers are provided for seamless integration with automation systems.

Runco Plasma--

Can you say Pioneer. Also I don't understand the 480p DVI/HDCP limitation-- Whats up with that. I do want to go to one of their dealers and check them out.

Dave
At lower MSRP than Fujitsu, Runco is starting to look like a discount brand! ;) If based on Pioneer, isn't it on the new and improved 504CMX?

High-enders owe it to themselves to put them in the competition against the new Fujitsus before taking the plunge - someone's pricing has to get more realistic. Double DVI does sound nice on their processor.
FWIW, I bet Runco owners have pretty much the highest satisfaction score of any plasma or projector owners.

Not yet Brett, their 50" is still $3,000 more than Fujitsu's and their 43" is $3,000 more than Fujitsu's 42" HD. So now I only have to spend $3,000 more for a nice green picture. ;)

Oh yes. They are very much satisfied with their ability to overpay. I know one very satisfied owner. His #1 priority is to get only the most expensive stuff. He says it feels good to afford it. I believe him.

Point well taken Ken. I guess Fujitsu's prices are usually so high that even Runcos look like their worth a spin. It is Fujitsu's 55 incher which is - justly so - priced higher than Runco's 50 incher.

Thanks for setting the record straight! :)
