Professional Acoustic Designer List

G'day all,

Has anyone got a comprehensive list of the best professional designers out there?

I've used Erskine Group (very happy), but am wondering who else is out there of a similar caliber?

(I'm interested in alternative styles and processes - to compare)

Lets keep it objective, unlike some other threads on this topic we've seen in the past year or two.

I'd be interested to hear personal experiences with other firms too.

List of Specialists:

Acoustic Vision http://www.acousticvision.com.au/

Anthony Grimani http://www.pmiltd.com/htacoustics.html

ASC http://www.acousticsciences.com

Bryan Pape http://www.sensiblesoundsolutions.com

Dennis Erskine http://erskine-group.com/

Keith Yates KYDG http://www.keithyates.com/previous/homela1.htm

Nyal Mellor http://www.acousticfrontiers.com/

Peter Montoulieu (CINERAMAX on AVS) http://cineramax.com/projects/

Shawn Byrne (PM SierraMikeBravo) [email protected]

Steve Haas Accoustics http://www.shacoustics.com/author/shaas/

Theo Kalomirakis http://www.tktheaters.com/

I've used the Erskine Group to design my theater. This is a top notch company. You can't go wrong using Dennis for all your design needs.

BIGmouthinDC does construction consulting. If you are building a theater and need some help with techniques or have any questions concering products to use or techniques on how to best build any part of your theater, Big is your contact.

Disagree. All designers have pros and cons. It would be best for people to understand what each has to offer. Then make an informed decision based on their own personal priorities & budget.

Others designers not mentioned above:

Keith Yates KYDG http://www.keithyates.com/previous/homela1.htm
Steve Haas Accoustics http://www.shacoustics.com/author/shaas/
Peter Montoulieu (CINERAMAX on AVS) http://cineramax.com/projects/
Wes Lachot Design Group http://www.weslachot.com/
^ Wes does recording studios, but is more than capable of doing a low noise floor shell of a room - isolation, HVAC, lighting, electrical, etc. He offers onsite construction supervision for his designs as far as I know. He's not cheap, but none of the well known design groups are. I think there are probably cheaper paths to a low noise room for HT, but he is 1 of only 3 worldwide groups that I know of that will come out and build a room a room for you.

Magnolia HomeTheater (BestBuy) offers design services but it didn't seem to be much more than what hardware to buy & where to put it. Similar for most local HiFi shops. I know mine will turnkey a room, but they sub out the design, sub out construction, and really just want to sell gear & install it. But it is another potential option for people looking to turnkey a room. My local shop collaborated with Theo, and the room got HT of the year 2013. I think SH did the acoustics. http://www.electronichouse.com/dail...-home-theater-design-lighting-and-automation/

Most acoustic treatment companies offer some sort of acoustic design service. GIK. RPG. Auralex. QuestAI is an option for designers that don't necessarily understand acoustics or don't want to be bothered with that aspect of HT design. My understanding is Quest does the acoustic design for a small fee. They spec their product & placement. The designer then incorporates Quest's acoustic design into his larger HT design. The designer "owns" you at that point, and makes his money back + profit through the resale of the panels to you. If true, I wonder if it really matters who is used on the frontend if Quest is doing the acoustic design themselves on the backend.

Since there has been some mention of late in a few threads requesting designers...might be good to bring this back to the top. As an FYI...folks can contact me directly via PM or my personal email (see below) if they need assistance and for faster response rather than going through the website.
