Does VT540 accept progressive PAL? I know it works with progressive NTSC but anyone tested PAL ever? It seems that PAL progressive DVD players are available (like Denon 2800 can be modified to output PAL).

tk,

According to the owner's manual, the only PAL timing that the projector accepts is interlaced 768 x 576 at a refresh rate of 50 Hz and a horizontal frequency of 15.625 kHz.

I know that. Thats why I asked if anyone ever tried to feed progressive PAL to VT540 and see what happens. Because PAL progressive does not exist officially I think they don't print it on users manual.

I have seen vt540 doing kind of a waves (backround) when camera pans from left to right with interlaced dvd player. Are you sure it happened only with progressive mode?

Wow! I don't have time to read the whole thing right now, but that looks like an awesome article. Lots of detailed explanations with animated explanations of many of the artifacts that we discuss here regularly. Now we need to create a page like that for posterization, crawlies, ...
