I have a Sanyo HT32744 4:3 HDTV. I also have an HTPC (sort of) connected via a DVI-HDMI cable. Currently I am outputing to the unit in a 720p mode. I like the idea of using a progressive display mode from a computer.

I'm wondering though if it wouldn't look better to use a 1080i mode. Is there any general consensus on which is the better solution for video quality? I primarily use this for playing back mpeg2 recordings from a PVR-250 card and DVD rips. Some day I may set up some games on this system, then again maybe it will be forever on the todo list, so for now TV playback is the primary function.

I can and probably will do some direct comparison but I was wondering if there was any kind of consensus as to which is the better choice.

Technically this unit accepts 720p, but all the posts in the official HT32744 thread (and the original thread) seem to think it upsamples everything to 1080i no matter what anyway.
