I have a Sharp DW100U LCD projector. I've been looking at the Kenwood Soverign 400 DVD jukebox (progressive scan). I was talking to one of the local HT installers and he told me that I shouldn't get a progressive scan DVD play because my projector has a built-in line scaler and that having a progressive scan DVD player would actually hurt my picture quality rather then help it. I'm looking for someone with direct knowledge of the DW100U projector to tell me whether or not he knows what he's talking about.

A progressive scan dvd player should work well with the Sharp XV-DW100U. If the progressive scan dvd player outputs 480p, then the internal scaler of the projector will scale the picture to its native resolution of 1024 x 768. I use an HTPC with my Sharp DW100U, setting my radeon 7200 video card to 1024 x 768 thereby bypassing the internal scaler. However in my opinion, using a good stand alone progressive scan dvd player should give you a fine picture.

I have one of these projectors too. I have found that for interlaced inputs, the projector gives a better, clearer picture interlaced mode than letting the internal scalar fiddle with the image. It's not that subtle, either. This is most evident with my Tivo.

However, I do run a progressive DVD player (Pionoeer Elite DV47a) and the picture is very, very good.
